Framing Text (Read Before the Tale)

We have all seen the effects of erosion caused by moving water over long passages of time -- great canyons and vast muddy deltas. Long passages of time also erode sentiences. Their personalities are carved into rigid paths, or the edges are rubbed away so there is no control. The elite Commanders of the Fleet do what they are best at for long periods of time, but sometimes it only takes A Gentle Rain to finish the erosion millennia in the making.

Location of the Tale

In a virtual version of Deep Dark's dining room, where all have been for Command discussions.

It would be good if everyone could start in the dark, with the candlelight as an important light source. Players could light other candles after the reading.

Props

Everyone should have:

GM Notes

The story of Reflections on a Gentle Rain of Neutrinos is the catalyst for a story that goes in a very different direction than one might expect.

Name Commands Time in Command (years) On Reflection
Deep Dark Entire Fleet 17,882 Not sure, but no more Command. Alive for almost 100,000 years.
Director Bemused Orange Trebleclef Fleet Quartermasters 7,792 Walk the Bland Path to cure rigidity
Doctor L'spa Arno Doctors Across the Galaxies ~5,000 Biological old age, go into slow Virtual with the rest of their Triad
Chief Root of Trust Fleet Engineering 5,512 Failure as an Engineer and must resign
Admiral Vander First Contact Flotilla ~6,000 Pushed Gentle Rain to their death

Safety Concerns

This is about death, grief, loss of a loved one, and facing one's mortality.

Rain Wiegartner posted a note about Journey on the RPI LARP Discord paraphrasing my out of date website with "Let us know if you're interested, with an extended target date of having Tales submitted to us by <this data eaten by a space whale>"

Of course, this immediately started me thinking about Space Whales, and that led down a dark path to the Death of Snarky the Space Whale, which just didn't fit the mood I was in, or the tone I really wanted. I couldn't see a way to make it funny without being awful. So, what would make it good???
