Your story

This room is too quiet, in this expansive set of quarters aboard the great Hospital Ship Ayesha Hussein. You met them once, the one who brought medicine to Ama'raani, who took your ancestors aboard their ship and introduced them to the galaxy. Now it's your ship, your command, your Mission, to bring medicine, medical techniques, and more to the peoples of the galaxies you cross. You command all of the Doctors in this Fleet.

Your friend, a biological marvel with a brilliant intellect, Reflections on a Gentle Rain of Neutrinos is gone, and you will never speak with them again. You'll never figure out how they flerked. You're never going to hear the end of the story about the Nineteen Supernovae of Unanticipated Consequences.

This room is too quiet. You can clearly hear the sobbing, which means it must be coming from you.

And A'rik has been in slow time virtual for forty years now, with D'awt, who went in, how could it be a century now? You've been without your Triad for so long, digging into one planetary medical crisis after another, as a way of burying your emotions. Gentle Rain was right to ask if you were "then yet." You weren't going to cry. Ama'raani don't give up their water. And you're crying nonetheless.

You are clearly then, now. You've been Commander of the Doctors for almost five thousand years, as part of a lifespan few Ama'raani have ever seen. You have to tell your friend, the Fleet Commander Deep Dark, that you're resigning your post. You have three threes of potential replacements, any of which will be an excellent Commander Doctor.

You will have to tell your friends, the other elite Commanders, that you will miss them dearly as well. The five of you have done great things with the Fleet.

And then, you'll go back to A'rik and D'awt, if they'll still have you.

This room is too quiet.
