Your story
As the Commander Quartermaster, you are in charge of acquiring and managing all the supplies needed by the Fleet. The Fleet does not fly far if you and your army of Quartermasters and Acquisitioners aren't at the top of their game. You've been Commander Quartermaster for the last 7,792 years, and, to be honest, your circuits are freezing in place. Your thought processes are forming rigid software rules that you can't break. This is something that happens to some androids, and the only way to keep sane is to take a complete break from the job.
You have to admit to yourself that the loss of your amazing friend Reflections on a Gentle Rain of Neutrinos has triggered so many different neural pathways that you can see how frozen you've become. Breep kallumi, you miss that leviathan of the Deep Dark so much already, it's causing a cascade overload in your sadness circuitry.
There were many times when you would jump into your ship ∫ ♥ dt (Integral of Green Affection Over Time) and wander through proto-nebulas with Gentle Rain in search of raw chunks of hooverium and anslownium for hyperdrive repairs. Gentle Rain never failed in your searches, a tribute to their ability to flerk. It's clearly now the "then" that Gentle Rain always referred to.
You are certain that Deep Dark is also feeling a similar aching loss. Nevertheless, you must make it clear to your friend that you need to Walk The Bland Paths for a decade or two, to free up your mental pathways and find clarity. Any one of your seconds will be more than competent to be the new Commander Quartermaster.
Toast your missing flerking friend. Toast your current friends, the elite leadership team of this amazing Fleet. You will miss their constant, often annoying, frequently demanding, presence as you retire into a boring but necessary solitude. And, frankly, you'll miss being in charge, able to command the entire Fleet, if necessary.
That's for Deep Dark to do, as she has done so brilliantly, for all those millennia.
Breep kallumi... Are we then, yet?
