Your story

You are the Proto-Ensign, the first of the Gennai to almost gain a Fleet Rank, in charge of the entertainment for any of the Fleet that may appear. You still must Eat the Serpent the Longest to retain that Rank. It is a ritual of fortitude and perseverence. Even though you've practiced since adolescence, you still can't handle the pain like Captain Rustbeard can.

The Captain always likes to spend some time during the Feast meditating through the pain of the Biting Serpent. The first time one of your village tried that, the bravery in the face of the Snake's Bite moved the Captain to shocked tears! Since then, it's still a transformative experience that tends to please the Captain immensely.

Since the Captain has not returned in some time, this is how you determine who will be the M C. You have practice, but the Serpent has no favorites.

Roleplaying note: While your character doesn't understand this, the Biting Serpent is the power cable from a Fleet Standard Battery Unit (FSBU). If you put it in your mouth, it'll give you a nasty jolt. Make sure you offer it to anyone who wants a taste. None of you can handle it for very long, and only on the lowest setting, because you're not an Android like the original Captain. This Captain isn't an Android, so they will get shocked if they try it.

While you know a great many local dances, nothing pleased the Captain more on previous visits than a performance of one of the great epics of his people, the Dance of Wee-oo.

Once, when you were young, you witnessed the Captain's crew performing this dance firsthand. You don't think they knew you were there, but the colors and sounds entranced you as you watched the Captain's village rush out of their metal bird and mill about with frenetic energy.

You were somewhat apprehensive when you performed it in public the first time, as you didn't have the lighting entirely figured out. The Captain laughed and laughed, so you must have done something right. He showered your village with dozens of blocks of shiny metals after that performance.

In the seasons since, you've continued refining the dance and improving on the basic steps, the sounds, and the lights until most everyone in the village agreed that you must have mastered it. The only notable person who still doubts your skills is Kay Junn, who thinks their Jitter-Grill is so much more technically demanding. You hate to admit it, but they have a point. You've seen the burns the Jitter-Grill can cause and you've got a deep and abiding respect for Kay Junn, even if you'd never admit it.

You know the Captain sometimes tells stories about The Unconventional Introduction. It's been a while since you've heard one. Maybe you could ask the Captain about it after your performance.

Roleplaying note: The Dance of Wee-oo is performed to the tune of alarm klaxons, with accompanying flashing lights. The standard steps include throwing your hands in the air and jogging in circles mimicing siren sounds or gentle screaming. Make sure all the locals join in, at least. You have undoubtedly developed more intricate additional solo steps if you can think of any.
