Your story

You are the young and inexperienced Captain of the First Contact ship Vigorous Felicitation. Isn't this exciting! Your first First Contact as the leader and Captain of a First Contact Fleet ship, stepping onto another alien world, to meet with an alien race. You'll be the first person from the Fleet that these people will ever meet.

You've been training for twenty years, and you're ready to make the Fleet proud. Everything's going to go smoothly and by the book. You don't want to disappoint your partner and children back on the Fleet carrier Looking for Life in All the Right Places. You've been ordered to make contact with those living on Gennai Prime, learn about their culture and their customs, and determine if they're ready to meet with the Fleet.

If so, they'll have a lot more visitors coming from offworld as the Fleet meets with their neighbors, to set up trade routes and cultural or diplomatic exchanges. The arrival of the Fleet has a significant, lasting effect on the peoples we visit.

If not, you're supposed to leave without telling them too much about the Fleet. We'll check in with them from time to time, until the Fleet leaves this region of space. They may grow enough to be worth talking to by then.

Lieutenant Lem has a lot of field experience. They're here to advise you, but the final decision is yours and yours alone. You'd better get this right.

Contingency: After a moment, you'll recognize that the android who grabbed and ate some of the godmeet, The Unbleeding Blasphemer, Corwyn, is a Chern Android. The only way someone from the Chern Worlds (in the Milky Way galaxy, not far from your ancestors' home worlds) could get here is as part of the Fleet!

The Fleet is too far away for advice. You've been given the power to do anything and everything the Fleet is capable of, if it's necessary. You're a Captain. Fleet Command, the Senior Captains, and the Admiral of the First Contact Flotilla all trust you to make the big decisions!
