Your story

You are a Human teenager.

You've often visited your virtual great great grandparents, who uploaded before they died. You've been entranced with the virtual world since you first learned it existed.

Even as young as you are, you are well known for your research. You're the foremost Physicist of any generation. You don't want to stop doing Physics. You want to watch all of the experiments you start continue for thousands of years. You've been jealous, watching the Physicists in virtual space and the experiments they can try.

You want to go virtual. You're pretty sure.

You know you're supposed to spend the next few decades exploring, doing Service, before making any sort of decision; let alone this one. You don't think you need that though. Service is for people who are trying to figure out what they want to do; you're pretty sure you know what you want to do.

You understand, you think, the risks. You understand that you'll never feel meatspace life beyond that of a teenager. You understand others think this is a problem.

You want to be close to your friend, Alix, and your parents. You didn't understand why they were so sure you needed to be in meatspace to hang out with them, but they aren't sure what going virtual will do to your relationship. You have to admit you aren't sure either.

You want to consider those ideas, give them their due. A true scientist needs to consider all possibilities, and make decisions carefully.

But you also really want to live in virtual space.
