Your story

You are Elriot's teenage human friend.

Elriot is the coolest! Elriot is the smartest person you know. You enjoy giving each other puzzles, stumping each other, figuring out who is best all the time. School has been better because of Elriot. Elriot has the best ideas of places to explore. You're pretty sure you're Elriot's sidekick in your adventures, but Elriot has never made you feel that way.

Between the two of you Elriot has always been the more adventurous one.

You don't want to upload yet; you want to experience life as a normal human first. You want to maybe experience having kids; you don't want to lock into being virtual at 17.

It's time to enter Service soon; to explore the sorts of jobs available on the ship. Those older than you on the ship often describe their stories of Service; what they've learned about themselves, how their friendships deepened. It's not so much that you expected to be in the same Cohort as Elriot, but you wanted to share the time. It's the time in your lives where you're supposed to be learning about yourselves and the world. You'd hoped you could share your thoughts around that with your best friend.

You want to continue growing up with Elriot. But... maybe Elriot is already grown up.

You won't stop Elriot from exploring the world that Elriot wants to explore but... you really wish that was more of this one.
