Your linguistic AIs are having trouble understanding their modes of communication. This is clearly the result of the intense gamma and X-ray radiation flooding this region of space. It is a good thing Commander Leguin has experience with difficult First Contacts.

You and the Commander are going to have to convince the Ryak-Ř to eliminate large sections of their starship before you can extend the Octavia's hyperfield around them. Once you are able to do that, you can bring them safely into hyperspace. (Which can be explained via voice, and which ends the Tale.)

You need to convince them to lose the ship components crossed out on the list in the right half of the text. This will kill some of their people. They cannot be saved. They will need the biodomes of life from their world in order to survive any colonization effort. They cannot trade biodomes for cryopods.

In the millions of light-years traveled by the Fleet, this may be the most desperate rescue ever attempted.
