Favorite Scene: The food fight, where the evil Carnivorous Blancmange threaten and terrorize the Tiramisu of Traversp-J. As murderous Jelly Babies parachute in and Flaming Mint Chips rain down in waves of deadly destruction, the realization that the Tiramisu are speaking through controlled crystallization of their sugars is brilliantly unexpected. Who would ever guess that a tasty dessert could be sentient poets, with a long history of philosophical debate and study? You were forced to keep stuffing your assay resonance scanner and gas spectrometry sample chambers with candy trying to eat you, just so the Tiramisu had enough time to produce that vital map. Who knew they could lead you to the long-lost Celestial Geese?
The thrill of the hunt, the search for a perpetrator, the game is thirty centimeters now! You've solved every VR mystery that's come along in the last nine hundred years, leaving a trail of frustrated authors and a humble virtualog followed by a third of the Fleet. You've prepared yourself, as usual, downloading the best detectival software, from a thousand crime-infested worlds of scum and villainy.
Several things are intuitively obvious:
Painting Planetscapes has never shown this level of quality work before. You can't say there are even flashes of real competency in their work. It's mundane, boring, and uninspired. Crystalline Thrones... is far beyond their capabilities.
Irregular Tesselation v12.4 was a student of Sonia/2B, and learned a few things from their master. It's possible that they learned enough to create the storyline of Crystalline Thrones..., but they have never taken the quantum leap in virtual design to reach this level of immersion and sophistication.
Sherlock Conan O'Brien said "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." There are several scenes in Crystalline Thrones... that correlate strongly with events and rumors about the very long life of Senior Captain Pamir.
Furthermore, the Senior Captain's records go back nearly forty thousand years, but with huge gaps. One lost record you recovered noted Pamir's great skill at creating virtual spaces for Fleet navigation. Senior Captain Pamir must be Sonia/2B!
